Things To Do - Coeur d'Alene

There are numerous activities and events throughout the year that make Coeur d’Alene such a unique and enjoyable city.  These annual events bring the community together and provide opportunities to gather with old friends and create new bonds.  Attending any one of these local events will bring you back to Coeur d’Alene time and time again for food, fun, and endless hours of entertainment!

At the Downtown Coeur d’Alene Farmers Market you can enjoy fresh, local fruits, vegetables, baked goods and crafts every Wednesday afternoon in during the summer months.  Also, each this warm summer weather brings the Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre.  Broadway plays and musicals with live orchestras come to the Shuler Auditorium on the North Idaho College campus.  These full-scale Broadway shows begin in June and go until the end of August.<

Held in mid-June in Coeur d'Alene, the many activities of the annual Car d'Alene Classic Car Show include a Friday night car cruise, Saturday Car Show and Shine, Saturday night street dance and collector car auction.  This event, hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association, is a fun-filled classic car weekend for models '77 and older!

Maybe the biggest annual event in Coeur d'Alene is the "Iron Man Coeur d'Alene" which attracts thousands of triathletes who swim, bike and run their way around Coeur d'Alene every June.  Considered to be one of the toughest events in the world of sports, the athletes begin their day at 7:00 a.m. and have until midnight to complete the course.  Another popular athletic event takes place in Northern Idaho, in Hayden. The annual "Hayden Lake Triathlon" is held at the beginning of August with a purpose to promote family health and fitness while raising funds and awareness for The Children’s Health.

Art on the Green is a marketplace, performance space and a gathering place for friends and families.   This yearly event is the highlight of August in Coeur d'Alene.  Art on the Green is a great place to buy a wide variety of handcrafted works in a plethora of mediums. Or if you prefer, create your own special art in our hands-on-art sections for children and adults- materials and instructions provided.  Active participation by all interested members of the community is invited and encouraged.  Each mid-August, the Coeur d'Alene Resort Boardwalk features a spotlight on antique and refurbished wooden boats.  The Coeur d’Alene Wooden Boat Festival is complete with food vendors, entertainment and even a spectacular fireworks display!

If your taste is more western than modern, than head to the Annual Old West Collectibles Show and Sale, which is held each year at the end of August at the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel and Conference Center. Here you can find old-timer grab, firearms, posters, saddles, Native American rugs and jewelry and plenty of other items to make you feel like a cowboy!

Don't miss the biggest fair and rodeo in North Idaho every August!  With new exhibits and attractions, traditional favorites and sensational food the North Idaho Fair and Rodeo is a family favorite every year.  Blue ribbon exhibits of arts, crafts, photography, baked goods, flowers and garden produce.  If you’re interested in rodeo, motorcross and demolition derby this is the event for you. Musical groups, magicians, clowns and entertainment make the North Idaho Fair and Rodeo an activity everyone can enjoy.

One of the most colorful annual events is in September when Coeur d'Alene is filled with Hot Air Balloons for the Lake Coeur d'Alene BalloonFest. This event includes sunrise launches, a night-glow show and plenty of balloon rides.  Live entertainment, children’s activities and various vendors make this event exhilarating for the entire Coeur d’Alene community.
