Chris Garcia

Lochsa River Manager and Guide

Guide since 2009: CO, MT, ID, Peru. Joined ROW in 2010. Stuck in Peru with only $130.00 to his name and no plane ticket back home to Chicago, Chris needed a job, fast. He found one in the office of a river company on Peru’s Apurimac River. What the company needed was someone who could speak a raft. Instead of the office as told, Chris unexpectedly found himself in the guide’s seat instead where he proved a quick study. Since joining ROW, he has managed our Northern Rivers operation, scout potential trips in Latin America, and work with Sea Kayak Adventures in Baja. A Cuban-American by birth, Chris holds a self-conferred PhD in Spanish from La Universidad de las Calles de Sur America (The University of the Streets of South America), where he has travelled and boated for at least three months each of the past six winters. Still, nothing beats the incredible rivers, vast wildlands and professional guide community of the Northern Rockies. So each spring he returns north to Idaho and Montana and the pending run-off. To avoid missing the rafting season, he now buys a round trip ticket before departing each winter for Latin America!
